Our Story

The story of the First Presbyterian Church of Saint Paul began on October 26, 1879, when Rev. G.L.Little met with a local group to organize them into a congregation.  For more than one hundred and twenty-five years the first Presbyterian Church of Saint Paul has worshiped and witnessed in this community and in the world.

The early Christian churches were known in the middle east for taking care of each other and we continue that effort in our community of faith. We share our meals with members who are not able to come to our congregational dinners, we celebrate birthdays with our annual birthday bash, and honor members in many ways including holding an annual Sweetheart Valentine’s dinner prepared and served by the men of the church in honor of the women of the church.

Our Mission

The First Presbyterian Church, Saint Paul is “The church that feeds people … body, mind and soul.”

We carry out this mission on the local, national and international level by supporting the local Food Pantry and  Summer Lunch Bunch program, by donating to area homeless shelters and Grand Island Crisis Center. We hold mission brunches to raise funds for numerous national and international Missions like Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Heifer International, Voice of the Martyrs, and Church World Services.

We have an active choir, and a dedicated group of Presbyterian Women (PW) who hold an annual Soup Supper and Bazaar to raise funds for the mission, and other church activities. A craft group meets monthly to work on projects including blankets that are given to various places including the Crisis Center and  Operation Shower, an organization that has baby showers for military wives who are far from home.  In the past years, the women have sewn pillowcases for children with cancer, made dresses from pillowcases for girls in Africa and sewed shorts for young African boys.  A quilting group creates a beautiful quilt each year that is raffled at the Soup Supper and annual spaghetti dinner that allows the PW to fund projects that help fulfill their mission.

A women’s Bible study group meets bi-monthly in member’s homes.  This group as been meeting for over 35 years!

Our members have numerous opportunities to contribute to the church and community in different ways by serving on church committees, helping with worship services to the community and support national and international missions in many ways.

You are cordially invited to join us for any of our activities.  We welcome new people and new ideas as we seek to serve the Lord.
